The Origins of Modern Dance an Example of the Topic History Essays by

The Origins of Modern Dance by Expert A+ Prof | 26 Dec 2016 Introduction essay Need essay sample on "The Origins of Modern Dance" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed The world witnessed the beginning of revolution in dance in early 20th century where ironclad traditions of classical and ballet techniques were done away with to pave way for innovative and new styles of dance and movement. To this accord, the modern dance would alter the way dance, through movement could express deep feelings and moods and entirely influence tendencies in choreography on international level. This revolution saw choreographers and dancers move away from the code structured ballet style to trends of creative self-expression. The classical and ballet dances were argued to be vulgar, limiting in expression of emotions and imperialistic in nature (Shine 2009). Most modern dancers have become focused more relaxed, free dance style with use of emotions and moods to design their own steps, and drew aspirations from the African and Oriental dances. The incorporation of the variety of body movements and other dance styles saw the birth of modern dance, where most pupils discovered the potential of dance as a vehicle for social change. Among the pioneers of modern dance are Charles Weidman, Doris Humphrey, Martha Graham and Lester Horton who studied in the Denishawn School in Los Angeles. They began developing their own techniques and methodologies for creating and teaching modern dance in New York and California in U.S. In Europe, Francois Delsarte, Mary Wigman, Rudolf von Laban and Emile Jaques-Dalcroze taught movement and expression which led to emergence of European modern and Expressionist dance, which spread beyond Europe (Aloff 2006). Lester Hortons interest in modern dance Lester Horton is among the influential choreographers credited for pioneering the modern dance techniques. After attending the Denishawn School in Los Angeles, he moved to California in 1928 and formed his own company. Lester Horton developed training methods that are accounted to the expanded ballets range of motions and movements and have contributed to the dancers strength, flexibility, coordination and agility in dance movements with freedom. These movements are very vital warm up for graceful dance and help develop pace, reduce muscle fatigue and pivotal for relaxed artistic expression. His approach incorporated perse techniques from the modern Jazz and Native American dances. Horton had passion for dance and was committed to revolutionalizing dance and for this reason he devoted his time and resources in setting up dance schools for teaching interested pupils in the art of dance. Among his pupils are Alvin Ailey, Bella Lewitzky and Carmen de Lavallade, who have been successful in the dance and film industry (Kassing 2007). Through his pupils his technique has been codified, altered, passed on, cherished, and embellished for its innovativeness and the aptitude to shape a fully capable mechanism of movement without leaving the dancer with a discernable style. According to Dinerman (2006), his legacy thrives in the modern dance, fully bodied, construct of spirit, genius and creativity which has set standards and formed an inspiration to some of the most articulate dancers of the twentieth century. Hortons famous works which are well known by the name choreodramas are The beloved, Salome, and Tierra Y Libertad. He will forever live in the hearts of modern dancers for his exceptional skill he bestowed on them. Modern dance influence in the 20th century The twentieth century was of enormous progress for arts and especially dances. Modern dance usually refers to the twentieth century concert dance. The modern dance being new and exciting was received enthusiastically by the youth but the mainstream arts community did not lack criticism to it but later they would fall to its alluring techniques and ease in improvisation. Like other modern arts it came with greater awakening of the consciousness in the society for its role as a means of expression (Aloff 2006). The ballet and classical dances were inadequate in expressing the modern world view which had dramatically changed after the Second World War. The dancers therefore wanted to express changes more holistic and spiritually through the modern dance that was not restrictive coded structure like the ballet. Radical dancers have embraced modern dance as potential agent of change through which they have been able to raise the masses consciousness by dramatizing the ethnic, socio-economic and political issues affecting the society (Chambers 2006). The modern dance has illuminated the concert dance and the musical theatre in the twentieth century. Not only has it seen the increase of theatre goers but also brought fortunes to the dancers in their lives. The film industry has also be quick to incorporate dance in their scripts, bringing new light in the screens which has been a bold move from also the classical movies where everything was supposed to be done via strict rules. With the rise of perse incorporation in the modern dance the film industry has also been keen not to remain rigid and from the influence of the modern dance it has incorporated songs, dance and actions bringing out a more refurbished screen images worth watching again and again. Through modern dance the people have been able to philosophically interpret the world and see it in new perspectives. By incorporating other peoples cultural persity in dance, the dancers have successfully helped the people in a society appreciate one another promoting peace and harmony (Kassing 2007). Dance classes I have attended Dance classes can be fun but requires efforts and commitment as they can be strenuous practices. I have been attending the dance classes for over two months. It has been challenging for me because I am a gentleman aged twenty-four weighing two hundred and fifty pounds and I guess you can image how I am. Although it has been hard considering my body posture, I have tried through zeal and zest and our choreographer has been quite encouraging to our troupe. Our parents tried to shut down the classes but the choreographer made them see the benefits that come with dance classes. Before I had problems facing or conversing with members of the opposite sex but believe me, I have shed off those fears. Dance is about facing and holding your dance partner without fear and your steps tells her where to go which means you should be in charge. The classes have contributed to the raising confidence in me such that I feel free standing close to a lady and conversing freely concerning the dance lessons and our mistakes. I hope I will also feel free talking about any topic! The dance moves have made me gain strength and control in delicate moves without falling which makes me proud of myself, for Ive also lost eight pounds of my weight. Moreover, learning something new has been a plus to my ego as I can show other people something they do not know. On the other hand it has not come that easy. I have been a subject of discussion as not many ladies want to dance with me. It is also disheartening when other people make fun of my body figure which I can do nothing about it. It really hurts! I have been paired with this lady who nobody wants to dance with because she is not that cute. Im starting to like her for she has a kind heart too. Altogether I have learnt to ignore my critics because they only aim to break my heart which Im prepared not to let them succeed. My advice to those of my caliber; heed not to your critics because youll never do something for yourself and spent time looking back to what they criticized. Life is a struggle, sometimes you have to lose something in order to get something, but it’s always your choice to consider what you want or need the most. The Declaration of Independence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Declaration of Independence - Essay Example The essay shall examine the similarities and differences between works written by three authors on the Declaration of Independence; these are the latter mentioned authors and Frederick Douglas. These comparisons will be done in relation to political issues, religious issues, equality and other issues. (Barthelmas, 2003) Jefferson highlights his views about equality by asserting that all men are created equal in the first paragraph of the declaration. Additionally, he believes that they have three major rights that come with this equality Some people have claimed that Jefferson simply paraphrased what another author in the eighteenth century had written; John Locke. Locke in his 'Second Treatise of government' asserts that there are some fundamental rights that all human beings should be granted and these include; Property, liberty and life. As it can be seen from the bulleted list above, these are the exact words used by Jefferson except for the world property. It has been reported that Jefferson had used the word property in his first draft but other members of the Committee he was working with urged him to change it to 'pursuit of happiness'. In light of all these striking similarities between Jefferson's Declaration of Independence and other previous writings, Jefferson's supporters have defended him and his writings by claiming that the declaration was not a creation of new philosophies. He was simply trying to air out what people believed already and was not trying to come up with a new ideology. Equality is a concept that stands through out Jefferson's Declaration of Independence. He talks about how the British government has demonstrated their lack of respect for the American people. Jefferson achieves this by citing 20 instances when this occurred. For example, he says that the British government prevented them from trading with other countries of the world. Additionally, he has problems with the imposition of taxes and the imposition of military forces amongst them. By speaking against these injustices, Jefferson was trying to show how the British did not consider the rest of their colonial states equal to them. (Armitage, 2004) Locke echoes similar sentiments. He believed that all human beings had the right to preserve their own lives. He also asserted murderers did not act in unison to the law of reason because they were contravening the right to life. Furthermore, Locke adds that all people are supposed to have the right to make their own decisions in an effort to exercise liberty. However, he believes that liberty should be exercised in such a manner that it does not impede other people's liberty. While Jefferson and Locke believed that no man was superior to another and that all people should be granted their due rights, these sentiments were mostly theoretical. This is fact brought out by Frederick Douglas. Douglas believed that most of the sentiments expressed in Jefferson's declaration of independence simply referred to a portion of the population while the slaves were ignored completely. Douglas explains that the black person in America did not share some of the liberties and freedoms proclaimed in the Declaration of inde

Buddhism Annotated Bibliography Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Buddhism - Annotated Bibliography Example In addition, Buddha’s do not believe that in life there is something like fate and urges that human beings are the drivers of their own lives whereby, every human being has the capacity and ability to liberate themselves from any suffering that one might be going through. The nature of self entails the act of awareness or having some consciousness. However, the nature of the self is not specific to awareness of any kind but it tends to be very general. The nature of the self may involve certain things such: feelings, imagination, intuition, memory, thoughts to mention just but a few. This means that the preposition of awareness may not properly define the content of the nature of the self because awareness tends to have some limitation. In addition, the nature of the self is not limited to anything just the same way that human being have unlimited desire in life. For example, human being are never satisfied with what they have, they always want to work hard to earn more money to meet their unlimited desires, in the same way that the nature of the self is not limited to consciousness or awareness as discussed. The main aim of self is the realization of individual personal identity. The Sri Raman asserted that the nature of self entails a fabrication o f mind whereby, self awareness may involve realization of oneself . Philosophers Aristotle and Plato tried to substantiate whether the soul, minds and the body are separable from each other and whether the soul is immortal upon human death. Whereby, Aristotle assertions supported the eastern religion of Buddhism that the nature of the self as an activity and that self exist within human being but it is separable from the human body. Aristotle added that self when a person dies, both the body and the self perish. He further substantiated his assertion using a knife as an example. The knife was considered as the body that has a soul whereby,

Economics of International Marketing

Economics of International Marketing Gibbie Yapsen Handadilla (DBM)Student ID : 1409012060 Brian Junaldo Honoris (DBM)Student ID : 1409012075 Objective We make this report in order to do a deep research on global marketing and understanding on the importance of international marketing Acknowledgement We would like to thank EASB for letting us to write this report and also Ms. Roszana for guiding and teaching us through this module and this report. Without their help, we may not reach this point. Introduction Global marketing refers to marketing activities coordinated and integrated across multiple country markets. (Jonny K. Johansson 2000) International marketing often used in some big companies. International marketing itself has big impact on world’s economy. In this assessment, our aim is to critically analyze on economics of international marketing. Questions to be answered There are 4 (four) questions that we will discuss on this report Evolution to International Marketing Elements of International Marketing Advantages and Disadvantages of International Marketing Economics of International Trade Evolution to International Marketing Because of today’s globalization, international marketing has become really popular. There are many changes or we can say evolution within companies around the world and also in international marketing. There are some stages in international marketing for those who are globalizing. Domestic Marketing As we can see from the word domestic which means inside a particular country. At this stage, companies’ marketing scope is only within one country. Usually, companies at this stage are only influencing local markets. They usually seldom to pay attention in the world’s market change or other foreign market competition. International Marketing From the domestic stage, evolve to the next stage which is international marketing. International marketing is almost the same with the domestic marketing. At this stage, companies have their factory to manufacture product in their own country but they focus their marketing into some particular countries. For example, FN beverage manufacturer from Singapore, the manufacturing happens in Singapore but their market isn’t only in Singapore but in other countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. Global Marketing There are only few companies which get to this level. At this stage, the marketing scope is much bigger than international marketing stage. The reason is that in global marketing, companies have their manufacturers spread all around the world, that’s why it is called â€Å"global†. Elements of International Marketing The elements of global marketing is what they called marketing mix. Marketing mix is about 4 P’s, product, price, place, and promotion. The next following paragraphs are about 4 P’s and the definition. First of all, product is usually what comes in mind to companies. Without product, the others are not going to follow. Companies are needed to make products which satisfy the customers’ needs. For example, many beverage companies are competing in satisfying their customers by producing new products which their customers’ needed. Secondly, pricing is needed as the second 4 P’s. Price is always affected by the demands in every market. With good pricing, the attraction from the products will attract customers. That’s why pricing is one important element in international marketing. Next, locating the right place to sell the products is so much important. One cannot sell something expensive in a poor country. So one needs to locate the right place to sell the right product as well. By evaluating the customers demand of a particular place then place the product there. Finally, promotion is the last thing to make it succeed. After we manufacture the product, give the right price, place it in the right market, promoting the product is needed to let people know that one already starting to sell the product. Of course, with the correct promotion will get you bigger attraction from the customers. To sum up, there are 4 elements of international marketing and they are product, price, place, and promotion. Each of the elements support the others. So, in order to succeed in international marketing, these elements are needed as the base of it. Advantages and Disadvantages of International Marketing Advantages International marketing is the process of overseas advertising of the products that a company sells. International marketing provides a host of benefits to a business, from helping to broaden the customer base to improving the reputation of the brand. Understanding these advantages can help businesses of all sizes to plan their international sales strategies and to focus their customer service efforts. The first advantage of international marketing will be brand reputation. By doing international marketing, a company can get brand reputation which depends on the company’s product. If the company can sell good products around the world, the brand reputation will arise, and people will recognize it more. The next one will be market expansion. It is the most obvious advantage because company who does international marketing will expand their market scope from local to international. With market expansion, company may know well about other people demands and can evaluate other competitors so they can improve the products and learn more. The last one is global networking. Just like before, by going to the global market, company can know new customers and new demands which can be used to improve the products. Disadvantages The first one will be the cultures. Different cultures can be a problem for some local companies which are new to global markets. They need to adjust the culture with others. For example, instant food company. They cannot sell pork flavored-food to host country which mainly are Muslim. The next disadvantage is the government law. For some countries which have a strict law, companies may find difficulties when trying to sell their products there. Some country banned Marijuana, but some other country allow Marijuana to be in market. That will be one example for companies to sell marijuana in some strict countries. Lastly is marketing mix. Company might have to develop a totally different marketing mix for its product in host country than in home country which will incur cost. Which means in home country will incur cost for host country. Like host country will get tax for import goods from home country. Economics of International Trade International trade is the exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or territories. In most countries, such trade represents a significant share of gross domestic product (GDP). While international trade has been present throughout much of history, its economic, social, and political importance has been on the rise in recent centuries. It is the presupposition of international trade that a sufficient level of geopolitical peace and stability are prevailing in order to allow for the peaceful exchange of trade and commerce to take place between nations. Trade is not a modern invention. International trade today is not qualitatively different from the exchange of goods and services that people have been conducting for thousands of years. Before the widespread adoption of currency, people exchanged goods and some services through bartering or trading a certain quantity of one good or service for another good or service with the same estimated value. With the emergence of money, the exchange of goods and services became more efficient. Developments in transportation and communication revolutionized economic exchange, not only increasing its volume but also widening its geographical range. As trade expanded in geographic scope, diversity, and quantity, the channels of trade also became more complex. International trade today differs from economic exchange conducted centuries ago in its speed, volume, geographic reach, complexity, and diversity. However, it has been going on for centuries, and its fundamental character–the exchange of goods and services for other goods and services or for money remains unchanged. Recommendation In doing international marketing, we must care about the elements of the international marketing first, especially for business managers or professionals. Learn about the pros and cons so that one can make decision rightfully. Conclusion To sum up everything, there are a lot of points in this report. There has been a lot of evolution through international marketing. There are also some important elements in international marketing as well as the advantages and disadvantages that we may get from international marketing. Therefore, as an international business professional, we have to examine everything first and then we can make a good decision. islam :: essays research papers

In last couple of years I have studies very hard trying to reach to the truth. I have found an answer to my quest and I remembered how there are people who can go away from the path but just needs some guidance to reach it. As a Muslim I am enjoined to use eloquent, intelligent, and polite words to invite a fellow man to the one and only truth. So I am writing you to ask you to inquire if my writings and sayings have any feeling in your heart.... One time some questions came to my head. Is GOD present or science prevails GOD? Did the miracles preached in the Bible and Quran actually happened even though science claims otherwise? If it did happen, why were they shown to mankind? Why can't we have one now? Why are we here? How come things happen to us that are so unfair, such as poverty, hatred, betrayal etc? Will there ever be an ultimate justice for all the wrongs that happen to us and or others? Or is this life it and the unfortunate people will always remain unhappy because there is no real justice? I needed to see something to make myself happy and not go down in despair. These are the questions I came to pondering. I needed to see something to make myself happy and not go down in utter loss. I asked that, if there is God please help me see the light and make me become a firm believer and not just a blind believer. I wanted to use logic and reason to believe. Thanks to God, the most compassionate and merciful, out of His infinite mercy he let me get some light. Now I want to share the light with you so no matter what happens to you in this world you will never despair or lose hope ever again because you will be guided by the only eternal truth and stay happy in this world and in the hereafter. Then when I was searching for some answers I found a website. www.submission.org/miracle.html It assured me of GOD and explained his miracles. I am ordered to preach the religion of God and do so as the way He showed. It all started with a single verse [74:30]; â€Å"Over it are 19†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ ------Do not argue with the people of the scripture (Jews, Christians, and Muslims) except in the nicest possible manner - unless they transgress - and say, "We believe in what was revealed to us and in what was revealed to you, and our god and your god is one and the same; to Him we are submitters.
